Co-op Life Skills Bootcamp – Manchester
Monday 23 to Wednesday 25 October 2017
Getting your head around career and life choices just after you’ve left school isn’t easy.
If like me, you’re not particularly drawn to the idea of University, the options and possibilities are endless, but also daunting. And if you’re going off to Uni, there’s a load of stuff that might make the whole business of applying for a place, knowing what to expect and getting the most out of your time there just that bit easier.
We’d like to help.
I’m the Chair of the Co-op Young Members’ Board – a group of young members of the Co-op who are bringing youth creativity and innovation right to the very heart of the Co-op.
We think there’s a real opportunity for the Co-op to work with members aged 16-19 helping you learn some of the skills, knowledge, and experience that will help you get to where you want to go. And we think your ideas and creativity will help us make our products and services better for everyone.
So we’re looking for young recruits to join the Co-op Skills Bootcamp that we’re running over the October half term holiday.
Bootcamp will be an intensive three-day programme designed with your needs in mind to help you get that bit more life/work/uni-ready. It won’t be a walk in the park, but we promise no one will be barking instructions at you! We’ll cover the following areas:
- Understanding finance and budgeting
- Getting the best out of interviews and CV writing
- Providing an insight into different jobs and what they do
- Building your confidence and presentation skills
- Getting the most out of volunteering and working in your community
- Understanding your values and what you stand for
We’ll cover the cost of everything you need for the sessions, including refreshments, materials, and lunch. All you need to cover is the cost of getting to our offices in Manchester City Centre.
If this sounds like the kind of thing that you’d be interested in here’s how to apply.
How to apply
Step 1: You can apply either by completing our online form or by uploading a short film of yourself. If you’re creating a film please do this before you click the link below to apply.
The film should be no more than 2 minutes long and should answer the following questions:
- What are you currently up to? Tell us about what you’re studying and where, or about your apprenticeship and interests
- What do you hope to do in your future career?
- What things would you most like to get out of Co-op Life Skills Bootcamp? This could be developing new skills or gaining work/volunteering experience
Step 2: When you have your film ready (or your answers if you prefer to apply in writing) just click here to go to the online form, where you can register your interest and provide answers to these questions.
Don’t forget that if you are under 18 years of age you’ll also need to get a parent or guardian’s permission – more details are on the application form.
The closing date for application is Friday 13 October.
If your application is successful, we’ll be back in touch shortly to confirm your place and to send you more details of what to expect.
