In 2008, we launched the UK’s first home compostable carrier bags, but we haven’t stopped there. For the past few months our store colleagues have been carefully separating the polythene from the packaging that keeps our products safe in transit, which has been reused to make our new Co-op bags for life. One tonne of this recycled plastic makes 34,000 Co-op bags for life.

This means that 80% of each bag for life is made with our recycled plastic.

Following your feedback we have also made our single-use carrier bags stronger while keeping them at 5p, protecting the amount of money that we donate to good cause in your community.

Our members and customers have also taken full advantage of our bags, finding wonderful and surprising new ways to reuse them. Co-op carriers have been spotted all over including a beach in Portugal, a cleaning trolley in Iceland and even sailing around Ballycastle. Where have you spotted our Co-op carrier bags?
