Hilltop Honey, a sweet story
Co-op recently announced they’re doubling the number of local food suppliers stocked in-store, through a new Small Business Charter. We’re one of their existing local food suppliers, a Mid Wales-based honey maker.
Hilltop Honey was founded in 2011 at the family farm in Newtown. I’m a former rugby player with Newtown Rugby Club and used to work as a coal merchant and a builder. When I sustained a back injury, I needed to reconsider my future.
When I hurt my back, walking to a bee-hive in the garden at home formed part of my physio routine and recuperation. I always wanted my own business and to work outside. So, I quickly got the bee-keeping bug.
Hilltop Honey now produces around 14,000 jars of honey a week and stocks 500 Co-op food stores nationwide.

Well thought out policy by Co-operative Group. I will remember to look for Hilltop Honey in future.
