Today marks the beginning of Remember A Charity in Your Will Week, and we’re delighted that Co-op Legal Services is continuing to champion and drive legacy giving, through their support for the fifth year running.

Our annual Remember A Charity Week raises awareness of charitable giving in Wills and highlights the potential to positively influence the world well beyond our own lifetime. Together with Co-op Legal Services and almost 200 charities we will be encouraging more people to write a Will and to consider leaving a legacy to those causes they feel passionate about, after taking care of their loved ones.

What many people don’t realise is that gifts in Wills are one of the main sources of funding for many charities across the UK. For instance, 6 out of 10 RNLI rescue launches would not be possible without gifts in Wills, 50% of British Heart Foundation’s voluntary income is from legacies and nearly two out of three guide dogs are funded by bequests.

We estimate that just a 4% increase in gifts in Wills would raise an additional £1 billion a year for good causes.

Imagine the difference a small increase in legacy giving could provide to charities across the UK and what that could mean in terms of tackling poverty, loneliness, social exclusion, and many more of the nation’s biggest challenges.

To help encourage charitable bequests Co-op Legal Services is offering up to 20% off their Will writing service. Click here for terms and conditions.

I hope this Remember A Charity Week will encourage even more people to consider how they can have their say on the world they want to pass on. If everyone left just a small amount to good causes, once they’ve taken care of loved ones, it could make an enormous difference for future generations. Find out more and #HaveYourSay on the world you want to leave behind today.
