We’re backing Social Saturday

293 words, approx. 1.5 minutes to read.

At the Co-op, we are proud to be a very different kind of business – a co-operative that champions a better way of doing business for you and your community.

There are lots of other co-ops and social enterprises that share a similar view. So we’re backing Social Saturday, organised by Social Enterprise UK, because we’re proud of the great impact these businesses are having in communities across the UK every day.

There are lots of ways the Co-op works with our communities to make them better places to live, work and grow up in.

We’re giving back with the Local Community Fund. By choosing Co-op our members have helped raise £9 million for causes all over the UK.

We are recruiting an army of Member Pioneers who share our passion for making a difference in communities across the UK. We’re highlighting the issue of modern slavery in the UK and providing paid employment opportunities to some of those who have suffered from human trafficking. And we’re tackling loneliness in the community too with members and colleagues raising £6 million to tackle the issue.

That’s why we’re delighted to be part of Social Saturday.

It’s really easy to join in – all you need to do is shop with a co-op or social enterprise on Social Saturday – 14 October. Just one small change, but one big impact. That way you’ll be helping businesses that put something back into the community and raising awareness that there is a better way to do business, every day.

If you are not already a member of the Co-op, you can join here. And if you want to find out more about Social Saturday and support the campaign in your area, click here for more information.

  1. Doesn’t tell me anywhere that I can buy locally from a social enterprise, also the social enterprise map only lists events taking place in England

    • Hi Scottie, when you buy any Co-op branded products and swipe your membership card you’re giving 1% back to causes in your community that matter to you. Are you a member? ^Scott

    • Hello! Thanks for the comment. I’ve just checked in with Social Enterprise UK. They are adding events as they come in from members and partners. There are events to be added in Wales and Northern Ireland and they are investigating activity in Scotland, so please keep an eye on the page or put forward an activity to them.
