Hardly a day goes by when we don’t hear about the shocking situation in Myanmar on the news. Over half a million people have been displaced and are now homeless, starving and sick or injured in nearby Bangladesh.

DEC (Disasters Emergency Committee) brings together 13 of the leading international aid charities to co-ordinate a response in times of crisis and we have a long history of supporting them. We do so because we know they only appeal when they’re sure they can make a difference and have the resources available on the ground.

So we’re asking our colleagues and members to support, and as a business we’re also diverting £50,000 to the appeal, for clean water projects. The money comes from the One Foundation, who receive 3p a litre  for every bottle of Co-op water we sell, funding water projects globally – whether it’s Fairbourne Springs still or sparkling, or a flavoured Co-op water.

The £50,000 diverted to help people fleeing Myanmar will go towards providing families with hygiene kits, giving people access to toilets and the rehabilitation of water points as they seek refuge in Bangladesh
