Hot on the heels of our AGM I’m asking you to vote again! But, this time it’s in the Co-operative of the Year Awards. Our Co-op is nominated as Leading Co-operative of the Year, you can vote online before 15 June.
Welcome to new National Members’ Council Representatives
I’m delighted to welcome 11 newly elected Members’ Council representatives to our National Members’ Council and look forward to working with them. I’d like to congratulate them on their success and extend this to our Council colleagues who were re-elected to their seats.
A call out should also go to all those candidates who stood in our elections. They are all contributing to our vibrant democracy as we had contested elections in every seat. You can read more about what went on at May’s Council meeting from representatives Jan and Shane in their blog post.
A hat-trick of community awards
It was pleasing to see us pick up a hat-trick of awards, recognising our charity and community work. In the Better Society Awards, our Insurance colleagues were recognised for their hard work on carbon offset and reduction. Our Co-op Group Board Chair, Allan Leighton also received an award for work he does with our Co-op Foundation. In the Business Charity Awards, our Charity Partnership with the British Red Cross for tackling loneliness was awarded best partnership.
Get involved with Co-operatives Fortnight
An important time in our co-operative movement’s calendar is Co-operatives Fortnight, this year from 23 June to 7 July. The theme is #CoopDifference, or what we in Co-op call, #TheCoopWay. Try and get along to events near you if you can. Here at Co-op, our Member Pioneers will be running activities throughout the fortnight so watch out for them in your area.
