St. Hilda’s East Community Centre is based in Bethnal Green, East London. The centre gives local kids a place to play, somewhere their parents know they can be safe and be themselves and even offers services to young adults, parents and runs women’s projects and volunteering schemes.
I chose St. Hilda’s as my local community cause last year. They benefited from Co-op Members’ support as part of the Local Community Fund in 2017.
“The Co-op Local Community Fund supported our Under 5’s Splatter Time project using natural materials. The children love playing with sand, plants and water whilst learning about nature and the environment. In the future we plan to arrange off site sessions to introduce parents and children to outdoor spaces like local farms and parks.” St. Hilda’s
“Space is so limited so having the community centre at the heart of this estate really provides them with an opportunity to come somewhere and just be children.”

I signed up online for the Co-op membership card because I wanted to make at least a tiny bit of a change in the community. I instantly felt connected with St. Hilda’s because of the work they do with children.
