Young members joined in to tell us – the Co-op Young Members’ Group – how they accessed their news and what they like to hear about, to help us and the Co-op look afresh at how and what we communicate to young members.
We’ve compiled this short video to give you a quick snapshot of what we looked at and what we found out.
According to our research, over 52% of young members primarily get their news through social media, with website and news apps being the preferred sources for a further 27%, signalling a real shift away from traditional news media.
And it’s ‘food’, ‘environment’ and ‘business’ that tops their list of the kind of news they’re most eager to hear.
We encouraged younger members to get involved through Co-op Join In and social media channels and, in parallel, we did our own research to see if what we heard was borne out in broader pieces of work.
We’ve shared our finding with the Co-op’s Director of Communications, and we’re now working together on a number of pilot projects to test some of the hypotheses we generated.
Tell us what you think about what we learned using the comments box below, or get in touch with us on Twitter.
And if you’re a member who’d like to get involved in your Co-op, please head to your member account to see the opportunities that are available for you to join in right now.
