As a Co-op Member I enjoy receiving my monthly Join In email, it’s fantastic that as members we have a say in our Co-op. I never expected in a million years that my participation would win me a trip Spain!
I saw the opportunity to review a bottle of Co-op’s Corte Mayor Rioja – the Co-op wine team wanted to use some member reviews to help promote the wine in stores. So, I provided a brief, and probably very unworthy, wine review: hoping, if I was lucky, to win a sample bottle.
I’m certainly no wine expert but I still like sharing my opinions and reading the views of other people. I had absolutely no expectation of winning the star prize of a trip to the Rioja region, and was elated when I did. I initially regarded the “congratulations you have won” email as unwelcome advertising until I noticed, with a flutter of excitement, that it had come from the Co-op.
My trip to Rioja
During my trip I learned so much about the region: about its wine making, culture and history. Our first stop was the wine museum at Briones where we viewed a fantastic collection of tools, memorabilia and works of art and enjoyed our first glass of the fabulous fruity red for which the region is so famous.
The following day we were taken on a tour of Baron de Ley vineyard. We marvelled at the sheer scale of production and the clever design of a modern winery with its monastic connection, then sampled a range of the top class wines they produce.
Throughout our stay we were treated to such a wealth of delights, local seasonal foods and wonderful wines, plus the sun shone! A superb weekend!
My advice to all members is to get involved, have a go! If nothing else, it’s fun to join in and you can make a difference to your Co-op.
