For most, Christmas is a happy time spent celebrating and relaxing with friends and family. But if you’re in the quarter of the population that lives with mental health problems, it can be one of the most difficult and stressful times of the year.
Co-op has partnered with Mind, SAMH and Inspire for the next 3 years, that’s why this festive season, we’re going to donate £50,000 from the sales of our Co-op Christmas Sandwiches towards the partnership. We’ve set ourselves an ambition target of raising £6 million and our Christmas sandwich donation is just the start.
We’ve picked these three charities because we’ve seen the amazing difference they’re making – bringing communities together and supporting people struggling with their mental health across the whole of the UK.
That means that every time you tuck into one of our tasty Co-op Christmas sandwiches, you’ll be supporting our partnership to bring communities together to build resilience and improve mental wellbeing. And there’s plenty of tasty options to pick from: The Boxing Day Lunch sandwich is filled with smoked turkey, smoked ham, winter slaw and a festive spiced chutney, making it a delicious alternative to the classic Christmas sandwich. And there’s a vegan option too – the Vegan Feast is packed with a parsnip fritter, cranberry slaw, toasted seeds, and sage and onion vegan mayo all on poppyseed bread. You can find these sandwiches and more in store now.
Tackling the issues surrounding mental wellbeing is a key part of Co-op’s community plan, Co-operate 2022, and is interlinked to our other key focus areas, spaces and skills, to create healthier and happier communities. You can read more about what Co-op are doing in communities across the UK here.
