We’re Blossom’s Legacy, a small, family-run charity that teaches children water safety and how to float if they ever find themselves in danger of drowning. We also provide crucial CPR lessons for adults, and are working on building our own swimming pool where we can give water safety lessons.

The idea that children should be taught how to float came about after our founder’s daughter, Blossom, was lost in a devastating drowning accident whilst on holiday. We realised that so much more had to be done to protect children who haven’t yet had a chance to learn to swim, so we set up Blossom’s Legacy.

Although the work we do is so important, securing funding is far from easy. So when we found out that we’d been selected as a Co-op Local Community Fund cause and can benefit from The Big Co-op Payout we were blown away!

The Big Co-op Payout

This year, thanks to Co-op members, Co-op are delivering £17m* to over 4,000 local causes like us. To have the vital work we’re doing in Blossom’s memory recognised by the community like this is really such an amazing feeling.

What the Co-op has done for Blossom’s Legacy is phenomenal and is helping us make a huge difference in the community. Until now, we’ve only been able to reach students during term time, by working together with schools to organise floating lessons in school swimming pools.

But because of the funds we’ve received from The Big Co-op Payout, we’ll now be able to provide lessons during the summer holidays, using the money to provide lessons at local pools. We’re also one step closer to our dream of having our own pools, up and down the country. The money supplements our regular fundraising work, like our Blossom’s Balls, which take place every November.

The support we’ve had from the Co-op is phenomenal. And the fact that when Co-op Members buy selected Co-op branded products and services, 1% of what they spend goes to support local causes like us through the Local Community Fund** is amazing.

  1. Very many thanks to all the Co-op customers here in mid Wales. We are a small community centre run entirely on volunteer support and have just been given a ‘payout’ which will enable us to refurbish our windows. The centre is thriving and was formerly a small village school, but given the transfer from the County Council into community ownership it requires considerable resource to maintain. The support we have received from Co-op customers is an important contribution as we look to provide facilities for the present and future local residents. With grateful appreciation. Robert.V.Wright, Chair of the local Committee.
