Due to coronavirus restrictions, our Join in Live events couldn’t be held in community spaces or stores this year, so we took them online for the first time instead. 

Held over four dates in October, more than 600 Co-op Members got involved from the comfort of their own homes via Zoom. 

The online sessions, hosted by our Co-op National Members’ Council, enabled members to get the lowdown on all things Co-op and have their say on the issues that matter to them. 

As well as a business update about how their Co-op is performing, members were given an insight into what we are doing to put people and the planet first. They were also able to put their questions to directors from the Co-op Board and leaders during a live Q&A session. 

During the events, members were divided into community breakout workshops hosted by Members’ Council representatives and Member Pioneers where they were able to chat with each other in smaller groups.  

They heard more about our new plastic film recycling scheme and we got their thoughts on how we can get them involved. We also shared our plans for our new members’ fund and asked for their ideas in how we can use the money raised to help support mental health and wellbeing in local communities. 

At the end of each session, our Delicious Food team treated members to a live cookery demonstration using some of our great Co-op food products. Co-op leaders joined them to update members on changes to Co-op membership, the new Co-op app and member-exclusive deals. 

Overall, the majority of Co-op Members said they enjoyed the Join in Live events and would get involved with other Co-op online sessions in the future. Here are just some of their comments:

“You make us feel an important part of the organisation – not just customers and consumers.” 

It is really important that our members have a say in the Co-op they own, so these events are a great opportunity to help us meet their needs and make a difference. 

I’d like to thank all the members who joined in with our online sessions. It’s great that so many of our members were able to hear some of the key issues we’re working on as a business and help us to think through our next steps.
