Thousands of Co-op Members have joined in to tell us how much they love our exclusive membership deals and weekly offers as we explore ways to make them even better.

Almost 40,000 members got involved to share their thoughts on how they’re finding the member-exclusive deals we launched last year, and to tell us what kind of offers they look for in our stores.

There’s value in being a member

The majority of members were aware they could choose two offers from eight personalised to them each week via our Co-op App or website, with most using them regularly.

“It’s wonderful to find a store that gives us the chance to not only get money back on our purchases but have fun choosing extra discount to put on our card each week.”

Pamela Shaw, Brora

More than half of members were also aware that they could receive larger price reductions on a range of key products by taking advantage of our exclusive member deals initiative having seen the deals promoted in our stores, in a Co-op email or on the Co-op App.

However, almost a third of members said they were unaware of these exclusive members saving and hadn’t seen these offers.

Members like the variety of offers available, and love that they are rewarded for being a Co-op Member.

“At Christmas, fizz was much cheaper for members than non-members.”

Paul Rush, Lancing

To encourage them to take advantage of exclusive deals, members would like to see more discounts on healthy food and meals including fruit and vegetables, bakery, vegetarian and dietary items, fresh meat and fish, alcohol, pet food, baby products and ethically sourced cleaning products.

Members share their favourite deals

By using their personalised weekly offers and exclusive member deals, members have enjoyed money off discounts and savings on the everyday essentials they buy most regularly – like bread and milk – as well as hundreds of different products including wine, cheese, chocolate, crisps, pizza and ice cream.

“Christmas champagne. I was sorry to see that offer end.”

Janet Griffith, Llanbedr

“I mostly choose the £1 off my shopping offer or money off wine.”

Kate Ferguson, Glasgow

“I’ve bought multiple items with the member deals such as drinks, bakery food and chocolate.”

Amy Heard, Sheffield

“I love the fruit offers and often use them against Fairtrade bananas.”

Jennifer Harding, Prescot

“Co-op dog food keeps our rescue dog very happy.”

Pat Stalker, Aberfeldy

Almost half of members said they’d prefer to hear about our offers via email. Around a quarter would like us to show them on the Co-op App, with a similar number wanting offers to be promoted in Co-op stores.

Members offer their engaging ideas

The majority of members told us they are more likely to engage and take advantage of the deals when they have a say in the choice of products included in the offers. They also shared some great ideas to help us ensure our members are aware of the savings available to them.

“Push offers out as notifications from the app.”

Gemma Nicholson, Sheffield

“Have your staff be more engaging about instore offers. Make suggestions about the offers at the checkout.”

Russell Guy, Teddington

“Could members deals be shared on a display as you enter the shop so they’re easily accessible to everyone and a reminder as you enter the store.”

David Rowatt, Huddersfield

“Aisle end display of stock that is in exclusive offers so that members can see and add items to their basket immediately.”

Annastasia Callaghan, Huddersfield

“Print out forthcoming deals on till receipts.”

Peter Cook, Seaton

“Produce a monthly leaflet that can be delivered to people’s homes telling them of the monthly offers.”

Susan Allenby, Gretna

Our next steps

Members have given us some fantastic feedback. We now know so much more about the kinds of deals and offers they use and want to see in our stores.

We’ll be working through our findings to make our membership deals proposition even stronger with more relevant discounts and offers for our members.

As part of our next steps, we are looking to trial some new opportunities over the next few months and the feedback from members will be invaluable in helping us shape those.

In the meantime, you can find out more about how to access our offers and see what deals are currently available to you by visiting the Co-op website

You can also get more from your membership by downloading our free Co-op App from the App Store and Google Play. Our app makes it easier for members to choose personalised offers to use in our food stores, scan a digital Membership card at our tills, choose local causes to support, donate rewards to help others, and discover our latest deals and get recipe inspiration.

There are always opportunities for Co-op Members to get involved in shaping our Co-op. Head to your member account to see what opportunities you can get involved in now

  4. Why are you still promoting and adding dividend points to my account. When we no longer get any divideds Paid out? Seeing profits clearly made for years yet it’s almost 10 years since divided shares were received by members?

  8. Each week I am having to call customer services to claim my weekly vouchers on my phone that just don’t scan once selected before my shop ..and then scanned at the till at end of a shop..that won’t scan for that product what’s the point! ..As I’m spending 15 mins plus calling up for a pound saving at customer services. And holding up others after me at the till till at peak shopping times in eve on my home from work. Really not impressed..on one occasion the person at the end of phone was rather rude to say the least..being with the store, co – op for 5 years as a member…well I d have a few choice words I can’t write here to say..

  9. Hi. I’m sorry to hear about your store experience. Safety remains a number one priority, and in line with laws set out by the Government, it is mandatory to wear a face covering to cover the nose and mouth when shopping. This is clearly communicated through store signage and we’d like to reiterate to all non-exempt customers that it is their responsibility to ensure they comply with the legal requirements.

Colleagues are not asked to challenge customers who are not wearing face coverings. It is the responsibility of all non-exempt customers to ensure they comply with the legal requirements. We are aware some customers are exempt, and we must be considerate of this. Thanks. ^Jamie

    • Hi I visited Hove Kingsway store today and redeemed the 50p off Kronenbourg deal only to find out that there were none left in stock and there is no way to change the offer choice on your App which is, ahem, a little sub-optimal at best. Can I have this added back into my card please?!

  12. Hi Julie. I’m sorry to hear this. The App offers are just an added benefit we provide for our members. The main benefit is the rewards you earn back on your membership card. I know this is not ideal but you could call the store before you select the offers to make sure they are in stock. Sorry for the inconvenience. ^Jamie

    • The more expensive item I am referring to is Quaker 2 minute in the microwave sachets which are the only ones stocked at my local store, they are more expensive than the own brand Co-op ones. The store is on Station Hill, Thurston, Bury-St.-Edmunds, Suffolk.

  16. Hi Malcolm. I’m sorry to hear this. In the new Membership programme, members will benefit three ways – personalised offers for you, tailored specifically based on the things you buy, great ‘membership only’ offers in stores and then 2p for every pound spent on Co-op products and services will go into your online wallet to spend as and when you want in our stores.

The membership and in store members offers are just an added benefit for our members as you will still earn rewards back onto your membership card that you can save up and spend this on whatever you wish in store. Thanks. ^Jamie

  17. I’m avoiding our local co op as the staff don’t say anything to non mask wearers – last few visits I’ve had to queue in between people who had ‘forgotten’ their masks- pulling a jumper over your mouth as u walk in and then pulling it back down once in store to answer a phone call does nothing to protect anyone! And some people don’t even do that, maskless and proud or just maskless and drunk, they don’t follow the one way system and stand really close in the queue. I used to pop in all the time, now we only go in if we’ve run out and can’t get to Tesco as it’s not worth the risk going to our local co op. Tesco enforces mask wearing and encourages distancing. My husband was thumped outside co op by a maskless and drunk co op customer after he asked him to put on a mask in store. Our shop was the hub of the community, but head office haven’t given local staff any assistance to deal with aggressive/drunk/ non mask wearing customers, we asked them, and I don’t blame the staff for not wanting to get thumped! I have reported this to co op HO previously as the local team asked me to do… No change. The offers are nice to have, but 50p off veg is not worth risking catching Covid…

  21. A few members have commented that they are unable to select the £1 off £4 spend offer – if it’s the one that appears at the bottom of the All Deals section in the App, that one is just an example of what is available via the App. I thought it was an actual deal at first too – a bit confusing.

  23. I don’t have a smartphone. I do get emails with the weekly offers, but that’s not much help if I choose 2 to put on my card and then these items are not available in my local Co-op. I thnk this system is more annoying than having no offers at all.

  24. Why does my Co-op only offer one expensive brand of an item rather than the own brand one which is cheaper. Also, I’ve asked several times for Golden granulated sugar to be stocked but I am ignored.

  25. I didn’t realise until a few weeks ago that if I had the app I would get 2 offers every week, so I now look forward to a Monday to see what is on offer. It all helps.

  26. I would like to see offers i can use in the app. More money off ones needed! On a positive note coop carrier bags are still the cheapest anywhere

  27. I love the offers and think its easy to select on the app although I have also never managed to get the £1 off £4 spend to load so that one doesn’t work. Agree with the post about Valentines Day offer. Wasn’t able to select 1 item from each section of the offer because the store didn’t have the stock. A problem which is frustrating but not something Coop can control is lack of phone signal and WiFi in store so can’t use app. I think having a display of offers as you enter the store is a great idea.

  28. I simply do not believe that I was the only member to provide negative feedback on ‘member offers’. The most important thing to me, and my friends, is to have a decent member reward system reinstated which empowers members to decide how their dividend is spent. The price reductions disempower those who do not wish, for whatever reason, to purchase the discounted items. Those in poverty may not have the money to purchase discounted champagne but would prefer to save their ‘divi’ to buy treats for their children – at 5% the return was decent and the poor could, as they have done since the Co-op began, save for festive treats. The changes have hit the poorest of our members and the change should be reversed.
As I say I simply do not believe that I was the only person making these comments and see this ‘blog’ as simply further ‘spin’ on the ‘we’re giving more’ – we are not giving more the Co-op is attacking those it needs most and for whom it was created

    Reply
    • Malcolm; I take your point that the 5% was useful in helping to save for larger shops etc but it’s important to realise this 5% (now 2%) is not a dividend and never has been.
A dividend is an entirely different entity and, some years ago, its return was promised when the Group returned to profitability. I believe we are well past that target date but my personal opinion is that any surplus should be used for new stores and accelerating refurbishments.

    • and join a queue…..the staff are nice when you do get through BUT it costs more in time than the discount you get. I’ve stopped shopping at Co-op Food…they’ve stopped caring.

    • This has been happening to me week after week since January this year. I can get the offers on my phone each week, but they never get deducted at the till point. I have phoned the Help Desk 5 times now but nothing changes despite their assumption that someone is working on it to fix it. The app has stopped working for me, all very frustrating.

    • i currently use a blue co op card, shop regularly in their stores, purchase the products i,ve chosen but don,t get the discount.when i enquired about this i was told different companies run the blue signed co op,s to the green signed ones(if you can understand what i mean)therefore not eligible for the products to be discounted as it was a green co op

      Reply
      • Yep, my blue Co-Op card is utterly useless. Despite the map on the website showing multiple stores near me, they are *all* either East of England or Southern Co-Ops and don’t take that card.

The emailed offers are good, and often will use my two offers, but annoying you can’t change your mind if you select the wrong one. Also only seeing 2 not all of the offers and then having to log into the app to add.

  46. Would like to see a few more Free From products available in the shops and vouchers for, assuming they are stocked?. One bug I have is gluten free Porridge Oats, most shops about £3 for 500grms, Morrisions £1.20 for a 1kilo. Buying food for some one suffering from Coeliac Disease is always about 3 times the normal price, talk about a rip off.
