We caught up with Laura Taggart, our Member Pioneer in North West Leeds. Our Member Pioneers are active Co-op members who have volunteered to make a difference to their local community by engaging our members and colleagues in local projects, events and initiatives.
“I have enjoyed my role as the Co-op’s Member Pioneer in North West Leeds and look forward to meeting and engaging further with the community this autumn and winter.
Since I became Member Pioneer I’ve been lucky enough to run Dementia Awareness courses for members, students and Co-op employees. I have also enjoyed assisting the Co-op team who volunteered at St. Gemma’s Hospice Midnight Walk as well as help to raise funds for Wheatfields at the re-launch of our Funeralcare branch in Headingley. It was also great to meet dozens of Co-op members at Unity Day in July which built upon the suggestions and ideas discussed at two open meetings earlier in the year.
It looks as though the rest of 2016 will be even busier. I’ll be helping represent the Co-op at Freshers Fayres in both universities and I’m holding two Dementia Awareness courses on September 24th and October 15th. The second of these sessions will be held immediately after the Woodhouse Moor ParkRun to reinforce their national link with the Alzhiemers Society.
The winter months will also give me the chance to participate in Leeds’ Fairtrade Steering Groups plans for FT14 and promote the new member offer in branches in North West Leeds. I should also get the chance to remember my loved ones at Funeralcare’s Memorial Event in Leeds Parish Church on Friday 16th December.
I’m therefore looking forward to a busy period during the later half of 2016 and look forward to hearing more member ideas and proposals on how the Co-op and I can really make a difference to my local community.”
